Brief description of the business

Islandbawn Stores Lts is one of the largest independent family-run Building Supplies and DIY stores in Northern Ireland.

Its purpose-built 11,000 Sq. Ft. store displays a comprehensive range of Building and DIY Supplies.

A separate building housing the Plumbing Supplies business and Bathroom Showroom was added to the business just over four years ago. The first 3D Virtual Tour was produced in mid-June 2020 and renewed in July 2023, following some alterations to the Showroom area.

Introduction

Approach to assessing the client’s needs

In 2020 being a customer of the Islandbawn Stores DIY business Sue became aware of the impending opening of the new Bathroom Showroom.

Sue approached Paul, the owner, and suggested a 3D Virtual Tour which could be ‘posted’ on the company’s website and on their Google Business listing.

The new Showroom was not physically visible from the main road. It did not have a presence on Google Maps or search. A solution that would address both issues was identified.

Outline of the proposed solution, capture, approach and, postproduction

The initial 3D Virtual Tour was a simple one using the second generation of Matterport’s camera (Pro 2) and the software platform available in 2020.

The Tour included highlight reel navigation and interactive information metatags which provided basic textual information about the various product ranges on display.

The upgraded Tour using the Pro 3 Camera and the updated software platform allowed for a self-guided walkaround tour of what is a relatively small space, mimicking the way a visitor would go around the Showroom.

However, the self-guided tour can be interrupted by the viewer at any point allowing them to click on the metatags for more information on any of the wide range of products.

Client Feedback

As a business, we had never done anything like a video/virtual tour but because we had introduced a new bathroom showroom, we wanted to show off what we had created.

We employed the services of Encompass Marketing and explained what we wanted. Encompass then took our idea and turned it into reality.
