A frequently asked question is whether Matterport has any plans for a Pro 4 camera and whether it might have LiDAR Drone scanning capabilities.
When Matterport introduced its first LiDAR camera, the Pro 3, it replaced the previous Matterport Pro 2, which used infrared to capture measurements and create a mesh and point cloud.
Almost immediately questions arose about the predicted lifespan of the then-new Pro3 LiDAR camera.
It is understandable that those planning to invest in the Matterport system to provide 3D virtual tours and in some cases, E57 point cloud files want to gauge the lifespan of their investment.
The news on the grapevine is that there are no immediate plans to introduce a Matterport Pro4 LiDAR camera or Matterport Drone 3D scanning camera.
My personal view which is partially based on the lifespan of the Matterport Pro2 camera is that investing in the Matterport Pro3 camera is a good idea and the return on investment will mean that it will have paid for itself in a very short time.
